The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is arguably Xiaomi’s most anticipated smartphone yet. While there’s not as much hype surrounding it compared to its predecessor, there’s no denying that the Mi Mix 2 is a more practical smartphone. Well, it will very likely land in Malaysia soon too.
Just yesterday, Xiaomi registered a device with the model number “MDE5” on SIRIM. A quick Google search revealed that this is in fact the Mi Mix 2, suggesting that Xiaomi Malaysia is gearing up to launch the device locally.
Naturally, the Mi Mix 2 sports hardware befitting of a 2017 flagship smartphone. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM, up to a whopping 256GB internal storage, a 3,400mAh battery, as well as the very same 12MP camera found on the Xiaomi Mi 6, though the Mi Mix 2 doesn’t come with a dual-camera setup. The front-facing shooter, on the other hand, is a 5MP camera.
But the highlight feature of the Mi Mix 2 is definitely its almost bezel-less display. Unlike its predecessor, the Mi Mix 2 sports a smaller and taller 5.99-inch 2160 x 1080 IPS display. Thank to the 18:9 aspect ratio, the Mi Mix 2 is a much easier smartphone to use with one hand.
While a SIRIM certification doesn’t mean a local launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is guaranteed, it’s certainly a promising sign. We’ll definitely keep a close eye on the local availability of the Mi Mix 2.
