Motorola is offering bargain hunters a reason to cheer this pay day week, as it is offering a one-week-only promotion on its fantastic mid-range smartphone, the Moto G5 Plus.
In our review, we called it the best mid-range smartphone besides the popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. It was superior in virtually every way, but its RM1,299 was simply too high to justify the purchase over the RM949 Xiaomi phone. Motorola Malaysia may have realised that, which may be why it is announcing this one-week deal.
Starting immediately until 2 October, Motorola Malaysia is offering the Moto G5 Plus for just RM1,099. That’s not all, either: every purchase will also come with a flip cover, a pair of Motorola Pulse 2 headphones, Moto Care second-year extended warranty, and a Moto Care accidental damage protection (one year or one-time claim) – together, these freebies are worth RM676. Combined with the promotional discount, we’re looking at close to RM900 in value which is…quite close to the price of the phone itself.
Given its hardware specs (Snapdragon 625, 4GB RAM, 5.2″ FHD IPS, 3,000mAh), Motorola is likely also aiming at prospective buyers of another Xiaomi smartphone, the Android One Mi A1 smartphone. Since both devices offer close to stock Android, the main differences are rather small.
The only real key difference is in the camera: the Mi A1 has a 12MP dual camera with 2x optical zoom and Portrait Mode, while the Moto G5 Plus has a 12MP f/1.7 sensor with dual-pixel autofocus. With both retailing at RM1,099 (for now), customers are spoilt for choice – these are two really good smartphones at that price.
The promotional price can only be purchased on Motorola Malaysia’s official store in Lazada: two colours are available: Fine Gold and Lunar Grey. Meanwhile, you can find the best deals for the Xiaomi Mi A1 here.
