As promised, D-Link Malaysia today has rolled out the update for its DIR-850L router. Available directly from its official website, the firmware update apparently able to rectify many of the security issues highlighted by security researcher Pierre Kim.
That being said though, this particular update is made specifically for the retail unit. For units that were distributed by TM and TIME Internet, customers have to wait for further instructions from their respective ISPs.
Meanwhile, the 19.3MB zip file contained two firmware: v2.08SGb01 and v2.10SGb01. Users must first implement the v2.08SGv01 firmware first before moving on to v2.10SGb01. Despite the name, we were informed that the firmware is indeed for retail units sold in Malaysia.
The step-by-step instruction on how to implement the new firmware is contained within the zip file as well. Shall users encounter any difficulties when updating their DIR-850L router, they are more than welcome to call D-Link Malaysia’s technical hotline at 1-800-88-2880 – open 24 hours, 7 days a week – for assistance.
