Merely weeks after Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ1 and XA1 Plus at IFA 2017, these two smartphones are now launched in Malaysia. Retailing from RM1,499, Sony’s latest offerings in Malaysia…are not exactly affordable.
The more interesting phone of the two is definitely the Xperia XZ1, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone. It comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p HDR display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 2,700mAh battery. It also features a 19MP Motion Eye rear camera, a 13MP front-facing shooter, and IP65/68 rating.
Interestingly, the XZ1 comes with a feature called 3D Creator too, which lets users scan objects – and faces – into 3D images. It may sound gimmicky, but it does seem like a promising feature.
As the more affordable offering, the XA1 Plus isn’t quite as powerful, but it’s a respectable mid-range smartphone. It’s equipped with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a MediaTek Helio P20 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, as well as a 3,430mAh battery.
In the camera department, the XA1 Plus is packed with a 23MP rear camera – the very same one used on the Sony Xperia Z5 – and an 8MP selfie shooter.
The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus will be available in Malaysia sometime in October 2017 for RM1,499. The flagship Xperia XZ1, on the other hand, carries a RM2,999 price tag; it will go on sale here by the end of this month. As for the XZ1 Compact, we were told that it will be coming to Malaysia, but there’s no tentative release date yet.
