Apple just announced a new entry to their Apple TV lineup with the introduction of the Apple TV 4K. The new Apple TV 4K brings high-resolution videos for customers with 4K displays in their living room,
The new Apple TV 4K supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision for High Dynamic Range (HDR) when connected to supported displays such as from LG and Acer. Running in the Apple TV 4K is the Apple A10X, the same processor as the one in the Apple iPad Pro.
With the new chip, Apples claims the Apple TV 4K has 2X CPU performance and 4X GPU performance than the previous generation. This gives it enough CPU and GPU power to play intensive 3D games on the large screen.
A game that Apple shared during the keynote running on the Apple TV 4K was Sky from That Game Company. The game was controlled with only the redesigned Siri remote and looks great on 4K display. It is also connected to other players around the world thanks to the WiFi connectivity in the Apple TV 4K.
Another feature that Apple shared is HomeKit connectivity, with the Apple TV 4K as the communications hub for the connected house.
Content is king, and the Apple TV 4K will not disappoint as Apple has been speaking to Hollywood studios to bring their 4K and HDR titles to iTunes. Apple also said that the pricing for the new titles will be the same as current HD movies on iTunes. Plus, they will be upgrading any HD video purchased previously to the new 4K HDR videos at no extra charge automatically.
Also coming soon are 4K content from both Netflix and Amazon on Apple TV 4K this coming quarter.
The new Apple TV 4K will be available from September 15 on wards for $179 or RM999 for the 32GB model and $199 or RM1,099 for the 64GB model. It will join the current generation Apple TV at the Apple online store.
