It looks like HMD Global is wasting no time in bringing its flagship Android smartphone to Malaysia. The company has sent invites to local media for the upcoming launch of the Nokia 8, set to take place this Friday.
The Nokia 8 is HMD Global’s flagship smartphone for 2017, with hardware befitting its nature. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with 4GB of RAM, it sports a 5.3-inch 2560 x 1440 IPS display in a sleek metal unibody. There’s also 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage with a microSD card slot, 3,090mAh battery, and of course, a pure Android experience out of the box.
In addition, there’s the other unique feature of the Nokia 8: a dual camera setup. Featuring a dual 13MP sensor setup that combines an RGB sensor with a monochrome sensor, the Nokia 8 cameras also have a “Bothie” Mode. This mode is basically a dual-capture mode that simultaneously activates the rear and 13MP front camera, which can be used for photos and videos, as well as native live broadcasting to YouTube and Facebook in this mode.
Seeing that it was only announced globally three weeks ago, it is indeed a surprise that HMD Global is launching the device in Malaysia so quickly. There’s no indication yet of the price here in Malaysia (that will obviously be announced at the launch event), but in Europe the device retails for 599 Euro (about RM3,040) – though European sales tax can hit 20%, which means we might see a retail price closer to the RM2,500 mark here.
