According to a report by Bloomberg, a group of 17 Apple engineers has left the tech company to join a new startup in Silicon Valley focusing on self-driving cars, Zoox Inc. This comes after Apple has decided to focus on autonomous technology instead of building an actual car.
These engineers came from mostly automotive backgrounds in Detroit as well as vendors who supply the industry. They cover key areas such as braking and suspension systems although the report doesn’t reveal more. The move doesn’t come as a shocker as Apple has revealed that their focus is beyond the manufacturing of cars but rather on the technology and the surrounding technology during a call with investors.
This does confirm any suspicions or rumors that Apple has stopped all plans to build their own car. Bloomberg reported that the people inside, especially engineers who have been hired to work on the car itself found themselves sidelined and not needed for any of Apple’s key initiatives. Hence they found themselves in companies which made use of their skills and ambitions.
