It looks like on top of reminding you the things that happened on this day each year, Facebook wants to do more. The social networking company recently announced new ways for you to relieve your memories with monthly and seasonal recap story, as well as new ways for you to celebrate your friendship on the platform.
First up, Facebook will bundle your stories into months and seasons. This means at the end of each month or season, the company will show you posts and photos that you shared over the period of time. We’re not quite sure how seasonal recap would work for us Malaysians though, it might be just a summary of things you shared over the past three months or so. Like the existing “On this Day” feature, these memories are private to you, but you can choose to share it with your friends.
On top of that, it’s no doubt that Facebook is all about friendship, be it when you become friends with someone on that platform, or when you interact with the posts your friends share. The company will start showing you celebratory messages when you make a “notable number of friends” on Facebook, as well as a summary of the number of times your friends have liked your posts. These messages are currently only shown to you, but the company says that they will become sharable in the near future.
Finally, Facebook is also updating its On This Day feature, making it easier for you to control what you would and wouldn’t like to be reminded of. Not all memories are happy ones, and the social networking company will finally let you stop painful posts from popping out each year. Facebook already tries to filter these posts out based on sad and angry reactions, but not all algorithms are perfect. A manual control to mark posts as negative so it wouldn’t show up again is definitely a much-needed feature.
