We have been hearing rumors about this wearable device which apparently will make an appearance at tonight’s Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launch but as the story goes, the device has already appeared on Samsung Malaysia’s official website. Say hello to the new Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro.
At a glance, it might look no different from last year’s Gear Fit2. In fact, they are indeed similar in many ways as both fitness-oriented wearables do have the same 1.5-inch Super AMOLED curved display as well as 500MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and 200mAh battery.
Still running on Tizen OS, the new Gear Fit2 Pro also features built-in heart rate monitor and GPS just like its predecessor. However, it can be used for swimming – something that users not able to do with the standard Gear Fit2 – since it is designed to withstand water depth of up to 50 meters.
Given this advantage, it is not surprising that the watch also comes with an app by the famed swimwear brand Speedo which allows users to track their swimming workout. Additionally, the website also listed a number of fitness apps made by Under Armor for Gear Fit2 Pro such as UA Record, Map My Run, and Endomondo.
Other than that, Samsung also claimed that the new wearable is able to support more than 3,000 apps and watch faces from Galaxy App store. It also mentioned Spotify as one of the app but didn’t confirmed whether it able to provide offline playback or otherwise.
Meanwhile, the availability date and pricing for Gear Fit2 Pro is not known at the moment. Given its appearance on Samsung Malaysia’s website though (UPDATE – 24 Aug, 1252AM: the page has been taken down), it is only a matter of time before those information made public.
