For those of you who’ve been waiting to try out Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby, your wait is over. The company recently announced that they have expanded the availability of Bixby to over 200 countries and territories worldwide, including Malaysia. With the update, you can finally use Samsung’s very own AI assistant to help you get things done “faster and easier”.
As expected, Samsung’s Bixby is only available in Korean and English, for now at least. Just like any other AI assistants, you can use your voice to get Bixby to perform certain tasks. Say things like “hi, Bixby” to wake Bixby up followed by a command like play music, or start taking notes.
You can also personalize some Quick Commands so it can perform a series of tasks. For example, use “good night” as a shortcut to “turn on Do-not-disturb mode, set an alarm for 6AM, and turn on blue light filter”. Samsung says that Bixby is deeply integrated with Samsung’s own apps, and even third-party apps such as Google Maps, Facebook, and YouTube.
“Now millions of customers worldwide have access to a new and intelligent way of interacting with their phone. The expansion of Bixby’s voice capabilities is an initial step in the continued rollout of Bixby functionality. In the future, Bixby will have the learning power to offer more intelligent and personalized interactions and seamless connections across more devices.” – Injong Rhee, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Software and Services of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
Bixby was first announced back in March 2017. Back then, it was only available in Korean, as Samsung was reported to be struggling with the English version. The South Korean company then finally rolled out an early access program for its U.S. customers, and officially launched Bixby in the U.S. just last month.
Samsung is rolling out Bixby starting today to Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users. Check out our previous post to find out more about Bixby.
