Emoji are far more popular than they have any right to be. A trend that has become especially noticeable thanks to the adoption of emojis in web addresses. ?.to seeks to help those who are looking to buy these kinds of domains; although there is a catch.
All available domains are listed by emoji category; the same way they would be arranged in any instant messaging app. Clicking on any particular emoji takes you to a registrar page where you can buy the domain from $45 a year. Just keep in mind that the more popular emoji can be really expensive.
The one problem is that the Top Level Domains associated with the emoji happens to be from Tonga; a tiny country in the South Pacific. This is because on Tonga supports emoji based domains at the moment, but the creator of ?.to says that he will add more as they become supported.
A few other TLDs have also begun supporting emoji, although most of these are already sold out. That said, people are already beginnig to buy domains that use more than one emoji in them (like ??.ws).
It’s hard to say how useful emoji based domain names can be. Seeing that Chrome has trouble displaying the actual image on the emoji. Still, this looks to be the way the future is headed. You might as well get ahead of the game and pick up the more interesting emoji while they are still available.
