Wait a minute, did I actually mean that DeLorean, the auto maker which made the famous iconic car which starred in Back to the Future the movie with crazy gullwing doors is back? Just like in the second part, Doc Brown came back and brought Marty McFly to the future in a flying DeLorean? Well, it is somewhat similar but not the same.
Meet Paul DeLorean, the nephew of John DeLorean who built the car which starred in the Back To The Future trilogy. Paul DeLorean has a fair bit of heritage he has to live up to. And now, with his company, DeLorean Aerospace, he hopes to build a flying car. Not one might think or imagine.
Yes, it doesn’t look like a car at all but the two seater vehicle is capable of VTOL (vertical take off and landing) which flies you to your destination. Still, the company is in its R&D phase and no full-scale prototype has been built yet. Just mostly models at the moment.
Dubbed as the DR-7, the aim of DeLorean Aerospace is to make the flying car fully electric, self-flying (pretty cool!) and also able to fit into any home car garage. Pretty ambitious plan especially with the self-flying capability but then again, the aerospace industry has had autopilot technology for years already.
The company aims to complete a full-scale prototype by the end of the year and will compete against other players in the flying car business.
