European-based Dota 2 outfit, Team Liquid, has won this year’s edition of the Dota 2 International Championships (TI 7). As winners, the team brings home the lion’s share of the $24.7 million prize pool, bringing home a cool $10.8 million.
Liquid had a less than encouraging start to the tournament, dropping to the lower bracket after the first round with the constant threat of elimination with each match. However, they soon gained momentum that culminated with the victory against LGD. Forever Young, who were widely tipped as tournament favourites, at the lower bracket final.

The grand final match saw Liquid demolish Chinese outfit Newbee 3-0. Newbee, also a tournament favourite, missed the opportunity to be the first Dota 2 outfit to win the tournament twice. Nonetheless, the team brings home $3.9 million as the second-placed team.
Meanwhile, four Malaysians represented different teams at this year’s tournament. Fnatic, featuring a strong Malaysian connection with Khoo Chong Xin (Ohaiyo) and Lai Jay Son (Ahjit) were eliminated in the group stages. Zheng Yeik Nai (MidOne) and his teammates in Team Secret were defeated by eventual champions Liquid. Finally, Tue Soon Chuan (Ahfu) played for third-placed LGD. Forever Young.
