In a statement by Transport Minister earlier this week, Malaysian government is working to implement a full inter-platform payment system for public transportation in Klang Valley by 2019. Called Integrated Common Payment System (ICPS), this will finally enable LRT, MRT, KL Monorail, and KTM Komuter as well as buses to utilize a unified ticketing and payment platform.
At this moment, the fare system for all rail system in Klang Valley are not compatible with each other and requires users to buy separate tickets when they want to jump from one system to another. With the implementation of ICPS, users will be able to move from one rail system to another without ticket gates in between them as per existing condition.
Interestingly, ICPS will be able to support several payment options including Android Pay and Apple Pay which sounds rather ambitious given how both payment systems are still not available in Malaysia for the time being. Of course, the cashless system will also able to support prepaid cards, as well as debit and credit cards.
While this is indeed an exciting news, ICPS was supposed to be up and running early this year. With that, we hope that the government will finally able to achieve its target once and for all.
