To commemorate the appointment of MOL as the official distributor of zGold, Razer’s gaming currency, Razer is holding an AFK event in Malaysia. Taking place on 19 and 20 August, the event will also see CEO Min-Liang Tan making an appearance with local fans.
The appointment of MOL isn’t actually new – the announcement was actually made in June. However, this event is more likely a way for Razer to increase the awareness of the new digital currency among the Malaysian gaming community. The event will be held in Berjaya Times Square from 11.30am to 8.30pm on both days.
As a recap, zGold is Razer’s own digital currency, which was soon rebranded into zGold-MOLPoints when MOL was appointed as the official distributor. zGold-MOLPoints works similarly to MOLPoints from before, where users top up their zGold-MOLPoints via PayPal or credit/debit cards, and using this currency earns zSilver, which is Razer’s rewards points system, which can be used to redeem Razer gear.
Meanwhile, the Razer AFK events are the company’s community meet-up sessions, which are held across the world. The last time Razer held an AFK event in KL was in 2015, but this time around, it promises to be bigger than ever.
For one thing, CEO Min-Liang Tan will be present for a meet-and-greet session on the first of the two-day event, where there will also be an exclusive autograph session. There will also be 1v1 challenges in SFV with Xian from Team Razer, or watch 3v3 Overwatch tournaments held in the area.

Over the two days, Razer will also hold special promotions and a lucky draw. Every RM100 spent at the AFK earns one entry in the lucky draw, for a chance to win Razer gear and swag. And, the first 100 fans to spend RM500 and above on Razer products will earn 5,000 zGold-MOLPoints, as well as a limited-edition Razer AFK Malaysia patch.
The event is open to the public, but those interested to go must RSVP via the event listing on Facebook here.
