For those of you who are using Facebook’s standalone Groups app to either manage your group or to follow on topics you are interested on, the app will be discontinued soon. Facebook recently announced that they are shutting down its standalone Groups app, and will bring the focus back to its main Facebook app. The standalone Facebook Groups app for iOS and Android will no longer be available after 1 September 2017.
Don’t panic though, Facebook is still very much focused on Groups. Earlier this year, they reaffirmed their commitments to groups to help group admins grow and strengthen their communities. Since then, the company has been working to bring additional tools to Groups, and found that it is better to focus on the main Facebook app instead. You can still continue with what you do on facebook.com, as well as the main Facebook app.
Facebook Groups app when it was first launched back in 2014
Facebook Groups app was first introduced back in 2014. The app was supposed to help make it easier for people to manage the Groups they follow, as well as discover new groups based on things like Pages you’ve liked, and groups your friends are in. All these will still be available of course, but instead of having to open different apps for Facebook, you can manage everything in a single place.
