The HTC U Ultra was a pretty odd flagship smartphone from the Taiwanese company, and recently, the device has received yet another price cut. This time around, it’s going for up to RM700 less, and it’s the limited edition HTC U Ultra Sapphire Edition to boot.
Of course, these new prices are not from HTC itself. Rather, it’s a price cut given by DirectD, one of the most recognisable retailers in Malaysia. Originally retailing at RM2,999, DirectD is now selling the U Ultra Sapphire Edition for only RM2,499; the standard model is priced at RM2,299 instead.
However, a quick search on Lazada gave us some really interesting results: DirectD is actually listing the U Ultra Sapphire Edition for only RM2,299. In total, that’s RM700 less than the original asking price. The standard variant, on the other hand, goes for as low as RM2,199 on the e-commerce site.
In comparison to the regular U Ultra, the Sapphire Edition – as its name suggests – comes with a sapphire glass display, which is much more resistant to scratches. Other than that, it also has double the storage capacity at 128GB.
Beyond these two differences, the U Ultra Sapphire Edition is virtually identical to the standard model. It still comes with a 5.7-inch 1440p Super LCD 5 display, a 2.05-inch 1040 x 160 secondary display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 12MP rear and 16MP front-facing cameras, as well as a modest 3,000mAh battery.
The HTC U Ultra isn’t exactly an “excellent” flagship smartphone, but with these price cuts, they are rather compelling. Both the regular U Ultra and Sapphire Edition are now listed at their new prices on DirectD’s online store, but note that they’re going for less on Lazada.
