About three months ago, Facebook rolled out a new Live With feature for its Facebook Live. The feature allow users to broadcast live videos together with a friend, and it looks like the social networking company is ready to roll out a similar capability to Instagram as well. Instagram just announced that it is testing a fun way to go live with a friend.
With the update, you can go live together with a friend, no matter where you both are. When you are broadcasting a live scream, you will see a new double smiley face icon located on the bottom right corner. Tap on that, and you will have the option to invite a friend who is currently watching to your live stream. Once they join, the screen will split in two and your friend’s live stream will appear below yours. Viewers can still like and comment as they follow along.
As the host of the live stream, you can choose to remove your guest or add someone else at anytime. Your guest can also choose to exit on their own should they wish to. Just like a regular live broadcast on Instagram, you can save your live video to stories when the broadcast has ended, or discard it altogether.
Go live with a friend on Instagram is currently being tested in a small percentage of Instagram’s community, and will be rolled out globally “over the next few months”.
