True to our prediction, Acer today has officially launched two new gaming laptops in Malaysia. They come in the form of Predator Helios 300 and Nitro 5 which are aimed at two different segments within the gaming market itself.
Even though it is part of the company’s premium gaming series, the Predator Helios 300 has a much lower price point as compared to its higher-end siblings such as Predator 21X, and 17X. For RM 5999, the laptop offers 15.6-inch full HD IPS display alongside Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB graphics card.
In addition to 8GB DDR4 RAM, it also comes standard with 256GB solid state drive and 1TB hard drive which are located in their own user-accessible cavities for easy upgrade although users still need to remove a number of screws to remove their covers.
Another highlight of Predator Helios 300 is its AeroBlade 3D fan that helps cool the laptop better than normal fan due to its higher rate of air flow. It also comes pre-installed with PredatorSense software that allows users to control the laptop’s fan and overclock its GPU as well as monitor its CPU and GPU temperature.
Meanwhile, Acer will also be offering its Nitro 5 in Malaysia as well. Despite having the same black and red colorway, the Nitro 5 is not part of Predator series and is skewed towards casual gamers that doesn’t require a lot of firepower.
That doesn’t mean Nitro 5 is not a capable gaming laptop though since the components that Acer has implemented into the laptop is still not too shabby. Built with 15.6-inch full HD IPS display and 4GB DDR4 RAM as standard, we are looking at up to Intel Core i7-7700HQ and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB graphics card.
As for its price, it pretty much depends on user’s choice of processors. The Core i5-7300HQ model which is also equipped with 1TB HDD and GeForce GTX 1050 2GB is priced at RM 3,299 while the Core i7 variant that includes 128GB solid state drive, 1TB hard drive, and GTX 1050Ti goes for RM 4,699.
