Tim Cook has shared a glimpse of what Apple is up to with its work with autonomous cars. Cook spoke about autonomous systems after the announcement of Apple’s Q3 financial results, indicating that there is more to the project than initially believed.
“In terms of autonomous systems, what we’ve said is that we are very focused on autonomous systems from a core technology point of view. We do have a large project going, and we’re making a big investment in this from our point of view,” said Cook to investors.
Apple was rumoured to have been working on Project Titan, its first foray into the world of auto manufacturing and self-driving cars. That, however, is believed to have been scaled back to only the technology aspect and not the actual car building itself.
Tim Cook made it no secret that he thinks autonomous systems are the mother of all AI projects in a recent interview with Bloomberg.
This latest statement alters the perception of Apple’s aspirations dramatically. The only glimpse of the technology thus far has been a handful of Lexus RX450h SUVs outfitted with sensor arrays. Especially since there has been little news of what Apple has been doing with the data gathered from that exercise.
