Update: HP Malaysia has clarified an error in an earlier press release regarding the processor option of the Omen by HP desktop. We’ve amended the article to reflect this change.
Besides the HP Omen 15 and Omen 17 gaming laptops, HP also announced the arrival of the Omen by HP Desktop earlier today. To be available in both Core i5 and Core i7 options with an AMD Ryzen processor, the gaming desktop is priced from RM5,999.
The Omen by HP Desktop is designed both for high performance and easy upgradeability. It supports configurations up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SLI and AMD RX580 CrossFire, and four RAM slots allow for up to 64GB DDR4 memory onboard. There are also four hard drive bays, including two easy-access ones near the top of the desktop.
The side panel can be removed without any tools, making it easy to access the internal components. The desktop also has an integrated carrying handle at the top, though the 17.6kg weight is pretty hefty.
There are also plenty of I/O options around the desktop. At the top of the desktop, there are 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB Type C ports, and a headphone jack. At the rear, there are an additional 4 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 DisplayPort, 1 SPDIF, and 3 audio-out jacks.
A 500W Bronze PSU is included in the desktop, as well as red lighting all around the internals. On top of that, HP is also bundling a keyboard and mouse set with every Omen by HP Desktop (though they are not the ones made in collaboration with Steelseries).
The base model will include an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 GPU with 8GB GDDR5 dedicated memory, 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR 4-2400 RAM, 2TB 7200rpm hard disk, and a DVD writer.
We’ve approached HP for more details on the variants and processor choice, and will update the article when we receive more information. For now, the Omen by HP Desktop has a starting price of RM5,999 with the base specs mentioned above.
