It appears Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its latest smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 5X. Based on its name, it’s possible that this is a variant of the Xiaomi Mi 5; the company’s 2016 flagship smartphone. Aside from that, Xiaomi will likely unveil MIUI 9 alongside the Mi 5X.
On its social media accounts, Xiaomi started teasing the announcement of a new smartphone. To be officially launched with Xiaomi’s new ambassador, Kris Wu, the Mi 5X seems to be sporting a dual-camera setup, an all-metal chassis, and a rear fingerprint sensor; it looks rather premium too.
Interestingly, MIUI 9 is also mentioned in the teaser. More likely than not, Xiaomi’s new Android ROM will debut alongside the Mi 5X, which is quite an interesting approach. After all, the Mi 5X isn’t exactly a high-end smartphone; if leaked specifications of the phone is to be believed, of course.
According to rumours, the Mi 5X will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, as well as the ability to do optical zoom, thanks to Mi 5X’s dual-camera system.
Of course, as these are still leaked information, take them with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, we can expect Xiaomi to announce the Mi 5X on 26 July; it’ll be interesting to see if the device will indeed retail at its rumoured price tag of 1,999 Chinese yuan – that comes up to about RM1,265.
