Motorola has just introduced the Moto Z2 Play in Malaysia. Unveiled globally just last month, the Z2 Play is Motorola’s latest mid-range smartphone. While it’s in the same segment as the Moto G5 Plus, the Z2 Play is a class above the former in several key areas.
When it comes to hardware, the Z2 Play isn’t too different from its predecessor. It features a slightly more capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chipset, a smaller 3,000mAh battery – it’s only 5.99mm thin, after all – and a similar design language, though the glass back has been swapped for a metal back.
Aside from that, the Moto Z2 Play also comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 12MP f/1.7 rear camera, a 5MP front-facing shooter, Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, and of course, compatibility with all Moto Mods currently available in the market.
The Moto Z2 Play is now available in Malaysia at all authorised Lenovo Mobile dealers and retail outlets. According to Motorola, the first 1,000 customers to purchase the Z2 Play will receive a gift box worth RM299. It includes a Carbon Fiber Style Cap, a Z2 Play Metal Phone Frame, a Motorola selfie stick, and a “Nano Liquid” film protector.
Retailing at RM1,999, the Moto Z2 Play is not exactly on the affordable side of things – especially for a mid-range smartphone. Its predecessor, for one, was priced at RM1,799. Then again, the Z2 Play’s compatibility with Moto Mods and its feature set may justify the steep asking price.
