Fresh rumours regarding AMD’s upcoming, highly anticipated Radeon RX Vega graphics cards have surfaced. This time round, it’s about the alleged power consumption of these cards. It’s said that RX Vega graphics card may come with a high TDP rating.
This rumour was first spotted on tweakers.net, where a forum user believed to be an MSI rep mentioned “I’ve seen the specs of Vega RX. It needs a damn lot of power. We’re working on it, which is a start so launch is coming closer.” As mentioned in our previous article, the recently released Radeon Vega Frontier graphics card has a TDP of up to 375W.
That said, it’s worth noting that the Radeon Vega Frontier is a workstation-based graphics card, so the TDP of RX Vega cards should be somewhat lower (hopefully). Another interesting takeaway from this rumour is that AMD may have already begun supplying its Vega-based GPUs to third party manufacturers like MSI. This, of course, indicates that we are indeed getting closer to the release of RX Vega graphics cards.
The red company did mention that it will be sharing more details about Radeon RX Vega at Siggraph 2017. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see just how well AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX Vega graphics cards will perform, especially when compared against Nvidia’s current offerings.
