Samsung will be releasing refurbished Galaxy Note 7s as the Galaxy Note 7 FE. These are supposedly the same as the recalled devices, although they will contain several different parts. Curiously, an earlier report from China claimed that the refurbished devices would be known as the Galaxy Note 7R.
This most recent report comes from the Wall Street Journal, which quotes more insider information about the matter. South Korea is set to see the Note 7 FE next week on 7 July; but there is no information about global availability. There are very limited supplies of the Note 7 and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Samsung forego a wider market.
What is in question now is the earlier sightings of the Note 7R; which was supposedly going on sale in China this month. The WSJ report did not mention a separate variant for China; and there was no real evidence that the devices are legitimate. That said, Samsung has not commented on either piece of news, making it difficult to ascertain the truth of either story.
