Rumour has it that AMD’s Threadripper may officially be launched in August. This recent rumour came from folks at KitGuru, who claim that a source claims that the most likely launch date for Ryzen Threadripper CPUs will on 10 August.
If this rumour is true, then it looks like Intel will have the upper hand when it comes to earlier launch date. As mentioned in our recent article, Intel has confirmed that its four to ten-core Core X-series will be made available by the end of this month.
In addition, Intel’s 12-core Core i9-7920X will be released in August, which is around the same time as the rumoured Threadripper launch date. Interestingly, Dell’s new Area-51 gaming desktop – which comes fitted with a Threadripper CPU – will be open for pre-order on 27 July, so an official August launch date seems the more likely.
All of that aside, we do recommend taking this rumour with a grain of “sceptical salt” because it only came from one source. That said, it’ll be very interesting to see how well AMD’s Threadripper CPUs will compete against Intel’s HEDT offerings in terms of performance, efficiency, and of course, pricing.
