Lenovo may have a very small booth at CES Asia 2017, but the Chinese company had a rather interesting product to launch: its very own backpack PC. Called the Lenovo Legion VR PC, it packs up to an AMD Radeon RX580 GPU.
The Lenovo Legion VR PC is essentially a small form factor desktop that looks a lot like a gaming console. It comes with a padded harness of sorts with metal reinforcements that transforms it into a VR-ready backpack PC; echoing Lenovo’s “multi-mode” laptops experience.
Inside is where this the Lenovo Legion VR PC gets a bit interesting. It’s water-cooled, and packs an Intel 7th gen Core i7 processor, while the base model will feature an AMD Radeon RX480 GPU. A Lenovo rep at the booth confirmed that there will be another variant bearing the new AMD Radeon RX580 GPU.
Besides that, the Lenovo Legion VR PC will pack up to 512GB PCIe SSD, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and two hot-swappable batteries for VR gaming with a battery life of 1.5 hours. The VR PC weighs 2.5kg with batteries installed.
Because the PC module is detachable, you can also use the Lenovo Legion VR PC as a standable computer. There are plenty of I/O ports at the front and back, while the PC itself can be docked vertically or placed horizontally.
The Lenovo Legion VR PC will only be available for sale in China starting in September, but those who pre order now stand to get it for a steeply discounted price. The same Lenovo rep mentioned that the VR PC’s pre order price is 14,999 Yuan (about RM9,425), and will rise to 21,999 Yuan (about RM13,820) when it retails in September.
The RX580 variant’s price was not confirmed, though the rep claims the price will increase by about 500 Yuan (about RM315) or so.
