It seems like the Macbook Pro wasn’t the only Apple product that had its prices increased. Just this morning, the recently updated 12-inch MacBook is now listed on Apple’s Malaysian online store, and it received a similar price hike.
Previously, the base model of the 12-inch MacBook with 256GB of storage retails at only RM5,499: it is now priced at RM5,999. Not only is this the same price the most affordable 13-inch MacBook Pro is going for, it’s also the costliest the 12-inch MacBook has ever been – when it comes to the base model, of course.
The highest-end 12-inch MacBook, on the other hand, now goes for a whopping RM7,199. In comparison to the base model, this variant of the slim and light MacBook offers twice the storage capacity at 512GB along with a faster Intel Core i5 – the Y series – processor.
Even though a price hike isn’t usually a good thing, it’s not exactly surprisingly considering the fact that the new 12-inch MacBook now comes with faster Kaby Lake processors. It’s not just a processor upgrade either: this MacBook also ships with faster SSDs now. Collectively, these two upgrades somewhat justify the price increase.
If you’re keen to get your hands on the new 12-inch MacBook, you can do so on Apple’s Malaysian online store. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any discount on last year’s model too; we imagine local Apple resellers will run some promotion for them soon.
