Every year, keyboard makers Ducky releases a special, limited edition run of the company’s flagship mechanical keyboard inspired by the zodiac sign of that year. For 2017, the Ducky Year of the Rooster Limited Edition mechanical keyboard is a lot more special than previous years.
Ducky has collaborated with renowned Koji pottery maker, Master Sheng-Nan Lu, to include a unique hand-made Koji pottery badge in each of the Year of the Rooster keyboards. Given the intricacies of ceramic pottery (and the fact that only one person is making these badges), only 2017 units of the keyboard will be manufactured.
These badges will also come in five different colours, which refers to the Cherry MX switch that the keyboard comes in. For the record, the Ducky Year of the Rooster Limited Edition will be available in five Cherry MX switches: Red (Vivid Burgundy badge), Black (Gem Black), Blue (Emerald Green), Silver (Sonic Grey), and Brown (Dark Sienna).
Just like the Year of the Monkey edition, the Ducky Year of the Rooster Limited Edition will not be available so soon. A Ducky representative mentions that a tentative release is set for September 2017, but it is hugely dependent on Master Sheng-Nan Lu’s ability to complete the Koji pottery badges in time.
No price details has been revealed yet, nor did Ducky mention what’s the breakdown of the keyboard’s switches. Given the scarcity of the keyboard, this will unlikely be an issue – the keyboard is definitely a collector’s item.
