Alongside the larger GT75VR Titan and Vortex G25VR, MSI has also updated its GE series of laptops with the new GE63VR Raider and GE73VR Raider. Targeted at gaming enthusiasts, these upper mid-range gaming laptops also feature displays with 120Hz refresh rates with as low as 3ms response times – a first on MSI on this series.
The new GE63VR Raider and GE73VR Raider feature a new sporty lid design, inspired by sports car front headlights. This is combined with MSI’s signature brushed aluminium chassis for an aggressive yet classy-looking laptop. More importantly, these two laptops feature a first by MSI on three fronts.
The first is the introduction of displays with 120Hz refresh rates and response times of 3ms (GE63VR Raider) and 5ms (GE73VR Raider) respectively. Besides that, the keyboards also feature per-key RGB backlighting for near-infinite customisation options. If that’s not enough, the three USB 3.0 ports on the sides of the laptop also glow red.
Finally, MSI has also fitted new “Giant Speakers” tuned by Dynaudio comprising of two speakers and two woofers.
There’s also the new Cooler Boost 5 technology, which has been refined further with two Whirlwind Blade fans, 7 heat pipes and 4 air vents around the laptop. Interestingly, MSI claims the Cooler Boost 5 technology is designed especially for its laptops running Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1070 GPU.
The GE73VR Raider is the larger model, sporting a 17.3-inch display. Three display panel options will be available: 17.3-inch FHD (120Hz, 5ms), 17.3-inch FHD IPS, and 17.3-inch UHD IPS with 100% Adobe RGB coverage.
Inside, the GE7VR Raider features an Intel Core i7 processor and up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 GPU with 6GB GDDR5 memory. Three storage bays are available (1x 1TB HDD with 2x NVMe M.2 SSDs), as well as two RAM slots supporting up to 16GB DDR4 sticks each.
On the other hand, the GE63VR Raider features a smaller 15.6-inch display, with three similar display options: 15.6-inch FHD (120Hz, 3ms), 15.6-inch FHD IPS, and 15.6-inch UHD IPS. It also packs an Intel Core i7 chip with GTX 1070 6GB GDDR5, but storage options are limited to only two bays: 1x 1TB HDD and 1x NVMe M.2 SSD. There are two RAM slots just like the GE73VR Raider.
Both laptops will be released globally in the coming months, with pricing details to be announced at the respective local launches.
