Lazada is making it easier for Malaysians to buy stuff from Taobao. The online retailer has introduced the Taobao Collection, a selection of items coming straight from China. Allowing people who don’t understand Chinese to shop from Asia’s largest online store.
The Taobao Collection is not exactly new to Lazada, nor is the partnering with retailers from mainland China. It has been running the same offering in Singapore since March this year; while Malaysians have been able to visit the Oriental Pavilion – a collection of goods from Chinese vendors.
Malaysians are already very quite familiar with shopping on Taobao. Although, for many that requires heavy use of Google Translate. This new offering from Lazada cuts down the number of steps since everything is already listed in English or Malay.
However, this is a curated selection of goods. Which means that shoppers won’t be able to find the same ridiculously wide range of things that Taobao has come to be known for.
The Taobao Collection comes shortly after Alibaba Group acquired a majority share in Lazada. It looks like more integration with the Chinese e-commerce ecosystem will be happening from now on.
