LG’s V series of flagship smartphones have always been rather interesting, and the next device in the series – reportedly dubbed the LG V30 – may be the most interesting one yet. In leaked renders of the device’s early concept, the V30 is shown with a slide-out secondary display.
As usual, these leaked renders come from Evan Blass. According to him, this is the LG V30’s original concept, and it’s unclear if LG is still retaining the slide-out secondary display of the upcoming device, not to mention the rather unique camera configuration.
Weekend bonus: this is an old-ish mockup of Project Joan, a.k.a. the LG V30. Not clear if the project is still headed in this direction. [1] pic.twitter.com/k5jNJ7DyLz

In a lot of ways, this early concept of the V30 is similar in design to the BlackBerry Priv. The difference here, of course, is the fact that the V30 features a secondary display instead of the Priv’s physical QWERTY keyboard.
Aside from the two leaks above, Blass also shared usage scenarios of the secondary display. Naturally, a keyboard is the most obvious example. Other examples of how the secondary display can be used include showing useful shortcuts, additional controls, or even just as an extension of the main display.

While it still remains to be seen if the LG V30 will feature the slide-out secondary display, it’s certainly a very neat feature. We’ll find out for ourselves sometime in September 2017, which is when the device is expected to be unveiled.
