HTC Malaysia is set to unveil the company’s latest flagship smartphone, the HTC U11, to the country next week. A launch date has been set for 1 June 2017, with local availability to be announced at the launch event.
Just announced globally a week ago, the HTC U11 is easily identified as HTC’s “true” 2017 flagship. There’s a 5.5-inch QHD Super LCD 5 display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, a modest 3,000mAh battery, and an IP67 rating.
HTC also bundles the new USonic earphones – it now comes with Active Noise Cancellation. Like the U Ultra, the HTC U11 does not come with a headphone jack.
What it does have is a very unique feature called Edge Sense. Users can “squeeze” the frame of the phone to launch specific apps, including the camera, your favourite app, or any app of your choosing. The HTC U11’s Edge Sense feature can also be customised to launch different apps based on how long you squeeze the device: a “short squeeze” will launch one app, while a “squeeze and hold” action will open a different app.
On top of that, the U11 also packs a new 12MP UltraPixel 3 camera that has been rated as better than the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S8.
What’s interesting is that Malaysia looks set to be in the first wave of global launches; global availability varies by market, but HTC quotes a June timeframe. In terms of pricing, a HTC representative stated that it will be around the same price as the U Ultra, but a confirmed price will naturally be announced at launch.
