Another day, another update from Instagram. Today, Instagram is updating its Direct with two new features – landscape and portrait orientations, as well as links. With these new features, you don’t have to worry about cropping permanent photo or videos sent to your friends on Instagram Direct, and links are finally clickable.
Before this, whenever you send a permanent photo or video to your friends in Direct from your camera roll, you would only be able to do so in square format. This means that there is an additional step of cropping your media file should the focus of the subject be out of frame. With this update, all you need to do is pick your file, be it in portrait or landscape, and press send. This is much easier, and since you can already post landscape or portrait pictures on your Instagram feed, it makes sense that the social networking company implements this in Direct as well.
As for links, things like URL, addresses and phone numbers shared on Direct can finally be clicked. Instead of just plain text, you can finally open web links, or tap on addresses and phone numbers to save them directly to your contacts list.
Landscape and portrait uploads in Direct are available today on iOS and coming soon on Android devices. Links in Direct messages are available on both platforms today as part of Instagram version 10.22.
