Samsung usually unveils a more rugged variant of its latest flagship smartphone, and it seems like there will be an Active variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8. Not surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will not sport the standard model’s sleek dual-curved display; it will also have thicker bezels.
Courtesy of a leak from the Wireless Power Consortium, we now have our very first look at the Galaxy S8 Active. In a lot of ways, the S8 Active looks like a more rugged LG G6; both devices have similarly tall displays, after all.
Unlike previous iterations of the Active series, the Galaxy S8 Active will not sport physical buttons on the front of the device. Considering the fact that Active devices are catered towards more adventurous users, we imagine this may prove to be cumbersome. Especially so when operating the device when it’s wet.
Looking back at the Active lineup as a whole, the Galaxy S8 Active should be more durable than its standard counterpart. Aside from that, it may sport a larger battery, a shatter-resistant display, as well as some form of dust and water resistance.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active should be unveiled sometime in June next month; that’s when Samsung usually unveil its Active devices. It’ll be interesting to see if the S8 Active will be any different from its predecessors.
