AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) has finally let the cat out of the bag: the company had announced the first ever Vega-based graphics card called the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. Unveiled during AMD’s Financial Analyst Day event earlier today, this is also the company’s fastest graphics card to date.
There is one intriguing issue with the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition though: it’s not meant for gamers. This graphics card is instead meant for professionals who require a graphics card with insane amounts of compute horsepower. According to RTG, the graphics card will be made available in late June.
Don’t get your pitchforks up yet though folks. It’ll be very likely that RTG will unveil Vega-based graphics cards for PC gamers at the upcoming Computex 2017 – in fact, the company showed a live demo of a Vega-based graphics card running Sniper Elite 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider at 4K 60fps during its event today. The latter benchmark was executed with a capped memory capacity of 2GB though, which made possible by AMD’s High Bandwidth Cache Controller.
Those aside, it’ll be very interesting to see just how powerful Radeon’s insanely hyped Vega-based graphics cards will be. Will they be more powerful than Nvidia’s current offerings? We’ll just have to wait and see.
