Yes, you read that right folks. It looks like Intel will be unveiling a brand new processor lineup called the “Core i9.” This is in addition to its current “Core” lineup of the i3, i5, and i7 CPUs. Core i9 processors will most likely feature the company’s most powerful HEDT (high-end desktop) CPUs.
According to recent rumours, Intel will be unveiling its family of HEDT processors sometime in June – E3 2017 perhaps? These processors are the Kaby Lake-X Core i7 family of CPUs and the Skylake-X Core i9 lineup of processors as well. The former CPU family will consist of quad-core processors, while the latter will feature Intel’s 6,8, 10, and 12-core CPUs.
Interestingly, a slide containing the entire lineup of Intel’s upcoming HEDT CPU offerings was leaked as well. Based on the slide, Intel will be launching up to six different high-end CPUs soon. These are the Core i7-7640K, Core i7-7740K, Core i9-7800X, Core i9-7820X, Core i9-7900X, and Core i9-7920X.
It’ll be interesting to see just how well Intel’s upcoming processors will perform. These CPUs will most likely outperform AMD’s Ryzen 7 processors, but they may be slapped with abysmal price tags. Regardless, do take this rumour with a grain of salt, at least until Intel makes an official announcement.
