It’s not a surprise that Facebook is betting big on videos. The social network is constantly pushing its video sharing services, with dedicated video apps on smart TVs and Apple TV, as well as 360-degree live video streaming introduced over the past couple of months. Now, it looks like the next move for them is original TV content. According to report, Facebook will debut its original premium TV shows as soon as next month.
According to Business Insider, Facebook plan to introduce about two-dozen shows at the initial launch. There will be two tiers – one longer big-budget shows, and another less expensive shows of around 5 – 10 minutes in length that will refresh every 24 hours.

According to the report, on top of being able to gain some advertising revenue, Facebook also hopes to gain back some younger users, who have been leaving Facebook to other social networks such as Snapchat. Business Insider reports that Facebook has greenlit a virtual reality dating show, whereby people will go on first dates in VR before meeting in real life. The news report also says that Facebook has tapped A-list celebrities to star in some of the shows.
Of course, this is just a rumour, and Facebook has not confirmed anything yet. Facebook isn’t the only player interested on generating original TV content, Apple is working on original video contents for later this year, and YouTube was recently reported to be working on its own tier of free, ad-support TV shows.
