Samsung has finally announced the arrival of its two hot new flagship smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, in Malaysia. The two devices will go on sale starting tomorrow, 5 May 2017.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with the new Exynos 8895 processor built on the 10nm process, which promises better power efficiency and greater performance. Both devices have 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB of fast UFS 2.1 storage, microSD card slots, the same 12MP dual-pixel f/1.7 rear cameras found in their predecessors, 8MP front-facing shooters with autofocus, as well as IP68 ratings. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ also sport iris and facial recognition on top of the rear fingerprint sensor.
However, the standout feature is the new Infinity Display, giving a 83% screen to body ratio and an almost bezel-less look. They also have significantly larger displays, at 5.8 and 6.2 inches respectively, even though their bodies are not much larger than today’s standards. Both devices have the same display resolution at 2960 x 1440.
Besides the display size, the only other difference between the two devices is in battery capacities, with the smaller Galaxy S8 packing a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8+ featuring a 3,500mAh cell.
From 5-7 May 2017, Samsung will also be holding a Galaxy S8 roadshow, where those who purchase the S8 or S8+ at the three roadshow locations stand a chance to get freebies as well as attractive 50% rebates on the Gear VR with Controller and Gear 360. More details can be found here.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will retail for RM3,299 and RM3,699 respectively. For more on the Galaxy S8 and S8+, check out our review, or see how it fares in our shootout with the iPhone 7 Plus and Huawei P10 Plus.
