Fitbit’s upcoming smartwatch may have hit a spot of trouble, but it looks like the wearable has been leaked anyway. Codenamed ‘Higgs” the device resembles the Fitbit Blaze; although it features completely different internals and a full colour display.
To be fair, the Fitbit Blaze already looks like it is a smartwatch. Which makes basing the new product on it a reasonable choice. Little is known about the internals, but the leak from Yahoo Finance indicates that it will have a display putting out 1,000 nits of brightness, a GPS chip, heart rate monitoring, touchless payments, and integration with Pandora. Fitbit is planning to fit the Higgs with between three to four days of battery life.
Fibit is said to have faced challenges in getting the device to be water resistant. The company only has water resistance on a portion of its products; and is believed that the feature is necessary for the Higgs to compete against the Apple Watch.
A pair of Bluetooth earbuds are also planning for release this year. These are said to resemble Apple’s Beats X wireless earbuds and cost around $150 (about RM650).
Fitbit’s new smartwatch is scheduled to be released at some point this year. It looks like the company has fast tracked development of the wearable after buying Pebble last year. Hopefully there will be enough of the Pebble in Fitbit’s effort to convince consumers to buy into the effort.
