That’s right folks: Nintendo has a ‘new’ console. It’s called the New 2DS XL, and now comes with a foldable hinge. The announcement was made on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel and Twitter page.
Being foldable isn’t the only new feature that comes with the 2DS XL, of course. It’s also significantly larger then the old 2DS console. In addition, Nintendo has also kindly bestowed the new console with a C-stick and Z-buttons for more ‘enhanced’ controls – features which are previously exclusive to the new 3DS XL.

Besides that, the Nintendo New 2DS XL also features Amiibo support. When it comes to design, the 2DS XL actually looks rather appealing. The variant shown on Nintendo’s promo video is coloured in black and blue. That said, there seem to also be a white and orange coloured 2DS XL as well.
That aside, based on the 2DS XL promo video, it looks like the console will also be fitted with a faster graphics processor as well. Interestingly, exclusive New 3DS XL games will also be compatible with the 2DS XL, thankfully.
Speaking of which, the 2DS XL will be made available in the US on 28 July 2017. It comes with a suggested retail price of US$149.99 (about RM652). Folks wanting to play 3DS games, without the 3D effect, should definitely consider the New 2DS XL.
