As expected, Xiaomi Malaysia has today officially announced the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The company will be bringing in the “global” variant of the smartphone with a whopping 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and is priced at RM2,499.
Announced back in October 2016, the Mi Note 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, with up to 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage onboard. It also features a large 4,070mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
In terms of camera, the Mi Note 2 packs a 22.5MP Sony IMX 318 sensor with PDAF and f/2.0 lens. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, is an 8MP IMX 268 shooter with f/2.0 aperture.
The most interesting aspect of the phone, of course, is the display. The Mi Note 2 sports a 5.7-inch Full HD OLED display that’s curved on both sides, giving it a sexy modern look that’s familiar to Samsung’s recent smartphones. While the resolution may “only” be Full HD, it is important to note that this is an OLED panel – one of the few in the market today.
Interestingly, the Mi Note 2 was initially confirmed by ex-VP Hugo Barra that it will not be sold outside of China. However, the presence of a “global” variant (6GB RAM/128GB storage) means that there may have been plans to launch it internationally. Currently, the Mi Note 2 is only available in Russia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. It also only recently went on open sale in China due to shortage of stocks.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 will be available in Malaysia from 29 April 2017 in Black, and is priced at RM2,499. It will be sold via the official Mi Store in Lazada, the new Mi Premium Reseller Store in Penang, as well as other outlets via local distributors.
