It looks like Lenovo is pushing the Moto brand towards a much lower income bracket with the Moto C and C Plus. According to serial leaker Evan Blass, these two new devices will be aimed at people buying their first smartphones and those who are operating on a very low budget.
The specifications of the Moto C seem to confirm the budget-minded goal. Both the Moto C and C Plus follow the design conventions set by the Moto G5 and G5 Plus. They share the same 5-inch display size, although the Moto C Plus runs at a resolution of 1280 x 720 compared to the 854 x 480 resolution of the Moto C.
Internally, the Moto C will run on 1GB RAM, while the Moto C Plus varies between 1GB and 2GB depending on region. The duo will support MicroSD card storage expansion. An important feature considering that they will only have 16GB of storage. The Moto C also has an 8GB storage variant depending on location.
Lenovo is set to fit the Moto C line with MediaTek processors. The type looks to vary quite a bit; depending on cellular capabilities. The Moto C 3G version will have a 32-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, while the Moto C Plus will have a 64-bit version of the same chipset. On the other hand, the 4G capable Moto C will have a 64-bit processor with a lower clockspeed of 1.1GHz.
There’s a 5MP rear camera on the Moto C, with the focus capabilities differing across the 3G and 4G capable variants. The 3G phone has a fixed focus, while the Moto C 4G benefits from auto-focus on the camera. The Moto C Plus bumps this rear sensor up to 8MP. Both will have a 2MP front camera that includes a flash.
The impressive bit about both phones is probably the battery size. The Moto C sports a 2350mAh battery, which is more than enough to run a low power MediaTek chip. On the other hand, the Moto C Plus packs a massive 4000mAh battery.
No information about the pricing or potential release date of the Moto C and C Plus has been leaked at this point. We do know, however, that they will ship in a variety of colours; including black, white, gold, and red.
