Telegram calls appear to have been activated for the world. The feature is effectively a web based voice call, and has been seen in other instant messaging apps. Of course, Telegram has also included its own security based twist.
Voice calls on Telegram have been in testing since last week, albeit only in Europe. This new rollout of the feature appears to be a global thing, with everyone now gaining access. That said, the call is still hidden away in the options menu and doesn’t have its own icon.
An important thing to note for those using Telegram Voice Calls are the four emoji displayed at the top right corner of each call. These represent Telegram’s security key exchange. The call is secure in the event that both people see the same set of emoji. Of course, verifying this requires the two to describe what they see.
Voice calls are currently limited to a single recipient at the moment, with no option for conference calls. We assume that this will come at some point in the future; along with secure video calls as well.
