Samsung’s acquisition of AKG looks like its paying off; for the consumers at least. The company has announced that each box of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will include a pair of earphones tuned by AKG.
This isn’t the first product to come from the partnership. Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S3 at MWC 2017 with speakers tuned by AKG. And announced that it was buying the whole company not long after that.
Another outcome from this is support for high-quality DSD64, DSD128, and 32-bit DAC audio. New Bluetooth 5 on the Galaxy S8 also means that this level of audio quality can be shared to wireless headphones.
The nameless AKG headphones included with the Galaxy S8 will have fabric cables for additional protection. These aren’t sold separately, but we have been told that they are worth about $99 (about RM440).
