Back when Google first launched its Google Duo video calling app, it only allowed users to make video calls. However, it looks like not everybody enjoys having their face shown when trying to reach their friends and families, which is why the company recently updated the app with a new audio calling feature.
It is not completely new of course. Google has been testing audio call on Duo in Brazil since earlier this month. According to Amit Fulay, the executive in charge of Google Duo, audio calls is rolling worldwide now. In conjunction with the rollout, Google also announced that they have partnered with Truecaller however, the partnership is only effective in India, where Truecaller says that they have 150 million registered users.
#GoogleDuo Audio calls is rolling out worldwide now …

When Google Duo was first announced, it was supposed to be a simple one-to-one video calling app. The app “takes the complexity out of video calling”. With just a phone number, you can easily reach out to your friends; no separate account required. Of course, not everyone is open to the idea of video calls and in order to stay relevant to the very competitive market out there, Google decided to include audio calls on Google Duo.
Google did not mention exactly when the update will be released, so do check back to the Play Store and App Store to see if you have the latest Google Duo update.
