Google recently updated its Maps app, allowing you to share your real-time location with your friends and family. If you are hosting a party somewhere, are having difficulties finding a location, or simply want to keep track of your loved one’s journey, this update is especially useful.
To share your location, simply open the side menu or tap on the blue dot showing your current location. You can then tap on “Share Location”, and select who to share it with, and for how long. For privacy purposes, you can pick specifically who to share it with either via your Google contacts, or through a link. When sharing your location, you will see an icon above the compass on your own map so that you are constantly reminded that your location is being shared; you can also stop sharing at anytime.
On top of that, the latest Google Maps update also lets you share your trip progress from navigation. Just tap on the “More” button on the bottom of your navigation screen and tap on “Share trip”. The people you share your trip with will see your expected arrival time, and follow your journey. Sharing will automatically end when you arrive.
Location sharing is nothing new. It is already found on other apps such as Waze and even Uber. With this update, those who relies on Google Maps can now easily share their location with their loved ones on their favourite app.
Location sharing on Google Maps will be rolled out soon to all users around the world, and will be available on both Android and iOS devices.
