As promised, Nintendo recently announced that its Super Mario Run for Android devices will be coming on 23 March 2017. The company will be releasing Super Mario Run version 2.0 directly, a major update that introduces some new playable characters to the game. iOS users will get the update on the same day as well.
So, what’s new in Super Mario Run 2.0? On top of new characters, it is believed that if you can complete Bowser’s challenges in the free version of the game, they will unlock the rest of the world, which is currently only available for those who are willing to fork out RM39.90 to buy the game.
Super Mario Run is the Japanese gaming company’s first major foray into the mobile gaming market. It features our favourite childhood gaming character, Super Mario, in a typical side-scrolling scene. However, unlike the games we used to play as kids, Mario will run automatically and all you need to do is tap to jump around collecting coins and special items.
Super Mario Run was first unveiled in September last year at Apple’s iPhone 7 launch event. It was finally released into the App Store in December as a free game, but in order to unlock all stages, you will have to pay a whopping one-time fee of RM39.90. Needless to say, people weren’t too happy with the price, giving the app poor reviews on the App Store. The game also requires an active internet connection to play.
For those of you who wish to get the game immediately, you can still pre-register at Google Play.
