It appears Asus will be unveiling a new ZenBook equipped with Nvidia’s capable GeForce GTX 1060 GPU sometime in the future. This was confirmed by the Taiwan Excellence Award, where the ZenBook Pro UX550 – presumably the successor to the ZenBook Pro UX501 – appeared on its website as one of the recipients of the award.
According to the Taiwan Excellence Award, the ZenBook Pro UX550 will in fact be powered by a GTX 1060 GPU; it’ll also be equipped with a 15.6-inch 4K display, which is said to feature “an ultra-wide color gamut of 72% NTSC , 100% sRGB, and 74% Adobe RGB.”

But the most interesting aspect of the new ZenBook Pro is its redesigned chassis. Although it’s evident that Asus took inspiration from Apple’s MacBook laptops for the UX550’s new design, it does look more premium than the UX501. Looking at the image above, it seems like the plastic bezels of the display have been replaced with a – hopefully – full glass panel too.
The ZenBook Pro UX501 was a decent gaming machine (it’s essentially the Asus ROG G501 with a more toned-down design), and the new Asus ZenBook UX550 detailed by Taiwan Excellence Award is said to be “the slimmest laptop to feature such powerful discrete graphics processor (the GTX 1060). If this turns out to be true, the UX550 is set to be a very interesting 15.6-inch laptop.
For now, Asus has yet to officially announce the existence of the ZenBook Pro UX550. Chances are, it’s only a matter of time before the company does so; perhaps we’ll see the UX550 unveiled at Computex 2017.
