Oukitel has been quietly in the Malaysian market for a while now, and the Chinese company’s latest smartphone could make you take notice. The Oukitel U20 Plus packs a dual-camera setup at one of the lowest prices we’ve seen at only RM639.
Given the price tag, the U20 Plus is understandably a fairly modest smartphone, with some hit-and-miss hardware. It sports a MediaTek MTK6737T 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of expandable storage. The microSD card slot supports up to 128GB cards.
On the other hand, the U20 Plus features a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display made by Sharp, with 2.5D glass. There’s also a rear fingerprint sensor with gesture support, so you can tap it to snap a photo, or play and pause music, while a long tap returns to the Home screen. Finally, there’s a 3,300mAh battery under the polycarbonate shell.
But of course, the focus are on the cameras. The dual camera setup consists of a 13MP Sony IMX135 sensor paired with a secondary 0.3MP unit that captures additional distance, depth, and light information. This allows the camera to create bokeh effects with shallow depths of field in the captured images.
Meanwhile, the front sensor is a 5MP unit that for some reason is interpolated to 8MP photos.
As for the software, the 195g Oukitel U20 Plus runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow that’s largely untouched except for some screen-off gesture support and 6 UI themes. The U20 Plus is also a dual-SIM device with a hybrid SIM slot.
The Oukitel U20 Plus is available now in Malaysia at a retail price of RM639 in three colours: Jet Black, Space Grey, and Champagne Gold. For more information, check out Oukitel’s official website.
